THE Duke of Kent was brought up to date on the latest work being carried out at Nycomed Amersham when he visited the company's laboratories in White Lion Road last month.

Sir William Castell, chief executive at Nycomed Amersham and Amersham Laboratories director, Dr Jan Ayres hosted the visit.

During his time at White Lion Road, The Duke of Kent saw the production facilities for OncoSeed, Nycomed Amersham's treatment for prostate cancer, and met researchers working in APBiotech, the company's life science business, who are developing new methods for identifying and studying human proteins. He also found out about how they control functions of the human genome, recently mapped for the first time, partly using Nycomed Amersham's DNA sequencing machines.

The Duke met representatives of the WorkAid charity which operates from premises supplied by Nycomed Amersham and learned of Nycomed's involvement in the local community.

Sir William said: "His Royal Highness was most interested in our work and greatly appreciated the opportunity to talk with some of our scientists who hold the key to our company's future innovations and success."
