For their autumn production the Amersham Playgoers Theatre Group chose a play by John Godber, the well known playwright and this play of his is the most popular.

It follows the antics of four bouncers at the Mr Cinders night club. The very strong cast consisted of Richard Watkins as Lucky Eric, Ian Reed playing Judd, Leigh Anderson as Ralph and newcomer Ian O’Reilly taking on the role of Les.

Such was the talent of these four between them they took over 20 roles. They were hilarious as young women in the night club dancing round their hand bags or intoxicated young men eyeing up the women, and a rather sleazy DJ.

There was a very funny encounter between a Swedish postman and the lady of the house with strobe lighting augmenting the incident.

The men all moved well when dancing but their best routine was an interpretation of the Michael Jackson song Thriller.

Brilliantly directed by Ros Thomas it galloped along at a great pace and the transformation of them men in their various roles sometimes in seconds was amazing.

The lighting by Chris Young assisted by Anne Norbury was exceptional and the sound by David Winney assisted by Dennis Ruff was great throughout.

The play had a considerable amount of adult content but was not too offensive. Judging by the audience reaction this was a popular choice.
