A BIN man from High Wycombe will compete in the gruelling Tough Mudder event to fund a missionary trip to Africa.
Rob Rayner will take on the 12 mile military obstacle course on Saturday as he aims to raise almost £1700 to fund a trip to Uganda.
When he reaches the Rukungiri region of the country in May, he plans to help build a special educational needs unit at a primary school.
The father-of-two said: “Normally people think of missionary workers as priests, vicars or the middle class who have a lot of time on their hands – but I’m a bin man just looking to do my bit for the needy.
“The church has been encouraging us to reach out and open our arms to the community and people in need. I had a look around at what I could do and this particular Mission Direct project tugged at my heart strings.
“Helping children with special needs in a poverty stricken country is just something I really wanted to do.”
The 40-year-old, who works in Windsor and Maidenhead, said he is in good shape ahead of the Tough Mudder challenge which he believes will be “good character building” before he jets out to Uganda.
