FOR their open air production this year, Fourways offered a modern version of this well known Shakespeare play.

Noted for their versatility in staging so many different plays and performing them so well it was no surprise that they brought Shakespeare to the masses.

Cleverly directed by Rob Bowen and aided by producers Carolyn Kendall, Jonathan Marks and Rick Butler, although this play was written as a tragedy there was considerable humour running through the action.

It was interesting to note that the bawdy side of Shakespeare was very much to the fore.

The innovative casting of a young and lively nurse and a lady Friar Lawrence was very progressive and judging by the reaction of many youngsters in the audience the whole thing was well received.

Indeed, speaking to one of the teachers who had encouraged her class to attend, the children loved it and wanted more.

The beautiful setting enhanced the overall presentation and the dramatic music together with some superb fight scenes made this most memorable.

So well done Fourways- keep up the good work, being a great fan of Shakespeare myself I am only too happy to find that it makes Shakespeare unforgettable to a wider audience.
