THE former Mayor of High Wycombe has announced he raised almost £35,000 for his chosen charities.

Cllr Trevor Snaith was weighed out of office in May having attended more than 300 events during his 12 months wearing the mayoral chain.

Wycombe District Council’s ward member for Wycombe Marsh returned to the Mayor’s Parlour this week to reveal that he had raised £34938.82.

The money will be split between his two charities of choice – One Can Trust and Child Bereavement UK.

He said: “When I and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Paula Lee, decided which charities to support over a year ago, we had no idea how much personal satisfaction we would achieve during our term of office from helping these two charities and getting to know the people involved.

“Being Mayor of High Wycombe really has been a fantastic experience.

“Busy, exhilarating, satisfying, stressful and thoroughly enjoyable, all at the same time. I would not have missed it for the world.”

He also paid tribute to the members of The Mayor’s Appeal Committee.

He added: “This wonderful group of hard working people have given a great deal of time to help make the Mayoral year a success.

“Without them I don’t think the last twelve months would have achieved as much.”

The town's incumbent Mayor, Cllr Khalil Ahmed, is raising money of Diabetes UK and The Cardiomyopathy Association.
