HI-De-Hi! brings back memories of lots of laughter for Su Pollard, who played Peggy in the popular series. And she is hoping to bring laughter to Wycombe and Aylesbury theatres this autumn, as she plays Maid Marian in Ha Ha Hood! And The Princes of Leaves.

The 64-year-old is Nottingham born, so it seems quite apt to take part in a show based on the legend of Robin Hood, who traditionally resides in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.

And the latest take on this classic tale sees what happened with Maid Marian and Robin after they merrily headed off into the sunset.

Ha Ha Hood! And The Prince of Leaves is the latest production from the Ha Ha! team who had previously toured with Ha Ha Holmes! created by Ben Langley, who also takes on the mantle of Robin.

Su, who lives in London, said: "I loved the script. I thought the premise of it was fabulous- what happened to Maid Marian and Robin after they have gone off happily into the sunset."

Unfortunately after ten years Marian and Robin have got divorced.

But they come together again after The Sheriff of Nottingham is released from prison and they must fight for the people of Nottingham.

She said: "In parts it is very sort of silly fun. There is a lot of panto stuff in it.

"It is almost like a sketch show too and stand up."

Tommy Cannon takes on the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and Little John while Bobby Ball doubles up as Friar Tuck and Guy of Gisbourne. They are accompanied on the piano by Andy Pickering. Su said: "In actual fact, Ben, the writer, he wants us to give our own personality to the characters.

"It is not just Medieval chat. It is a bit more modern.

"It is a fun take on it."

It was of course the role of Peggy Ollerenshaw in Hi de Hi! which made Su a household name and the title of the series became a catchphrase echoed through the land. It ran in the 80s but is often aired on cable and digital channels.

Su said: "I was out in Soho for a friend of mine's birthday and we went to this lovely bar.

"This guy came up to me and said, 'I used to really love that'. I said: 'It is my pleasure to have been associated with something that has brought people so much enjoyment.'"

So what does she remember from that time? "Just laughing, laughing, laughing. It is all we ever did.

"I am laughing now thinking about some of those marvellous times we had. It was a glorious time."

But for her, being on stage is one of her greatest pleasures. She has starred in many stage shows and really enjoyed playing Miss Hannigan in Annie and starring in the musical, Shout!

She said: "It is my favourite genre. You have an immediacy. Your audience can see what you are doing there and then.

"You start the journey with each other. We are telling them the story. Hopefully both of you get job satisfaction.

"When you are doing TV you don't get any reaction until it has aired."

Su has turned down once again appearing in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

She said: "They always ask me every year. I would scream at everything. It would be hell.

"I don't like manipulative TV.

"I wouldn't want to judge anyone else's choice at all.

"I would rather just learn my lines- it doesn't suit me."

Su is on tour with Ha Ha Hood! until November and then she is playing the Wicked Queen in the Snow White pantomime at the Sunderland Empire at Christmas.

She said: "You have got to give it your best at every performance.

"I always keep that going. It is really important."

And of course, Su is well known for her individual fashion sense. She said: "Even when I was four or five I said to my mum, 'No I want to wear a blue polka dot dress and yellow tights.'

"I don't think things always have to match. Imagination is a really good thing as far as fashion is concerned."
