TODAY sees the 1,000th offering from our columnist, Colin Baker, who has not yet missed a single week since he started in 1995.

The sixth Doctor Who even managed to make sure his weekly column was filled during his time in the jungle in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.

The Cadmore End resident first started to write for the Bucks Free Press after he wrote a letter to former editor, Steve Cohen, who then asked him to become a regular columnist.

Colin said: "There was one where I nearly didn't make it. I was desperate not to ruin that record and I managed to get it in on the Thursday morning."

He has written his weekly musings wherever he has found himself in the world- be it Australia, America or Europe- in internet cafes at first and then using his own computer.

Colin said: "Sometimes I have a battle to find an idea. Usually someone says something to me that triggers something."

And he said there are two topics which always evoke a response: banning fox hunting and global warming.

But he added: "There are some subjects I tend to avoid. I avoid religion. As a kind of gentle agnostic I don't want to upset people."

Colin said he enjoys writing and likes that he can call himself an actor, writer and columnist.

He added: "The unique thing about the job I do is there are some people disproportionately interested in what I have to say.

"I have no more right to air my opinion than any one else- the BFP has offered me the opportunity to do so.

"I like to think sometimes I ride on my white horse and help the under dog and point out the follies and faults of those who govern us and tell us what to do."

In 2012 he was in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in Australia and he made sure he sent in his columns before he left.

And he doesn't regret doing the show at all and said it made him think about what mattered to him.

He added: "If they asked me to do it again I probably would."

Colin was presented with a bottle of champagne at the BFP offices in Loudwater this week to say thank you for all his hard work.

He would now like to make it to 20 years as a BFP columnist, which will fall next August.
