Open letter to BFP columnist Colin Baker.
I often read your column in the BFP and a few days ago I had reason to recall some comments you made about your dislike of cheese last year.
I must admit that I thought of replying to you then about my amusing experiences about BA and their desire to make me eat cheese!
Back in the mid 90s I became a regular passenger.
The food choice was always the same, a ham sandwich or a cheese sandwich. As I have a strong dislike of cheese (which dates back to my school days where I was forced to eat it) I always had a ham sandwich and was very happy.
After a while I assume there was a cost cutting exercise and the only food was a ham and cheese sandwich. Easy for me, I ordered this and lifted out the slice of cheese and left it on my plate.
After a while they decided to go upmarket and make it a ham and cheese toasted sandwich (or they noticed what I was doing and decided to thwart me and make me eat cheese!) I was of course now at a loss – the only option was a vegan meal which was a mushroom sandwich. As I don’t like mushrooms either, I simply went hungry.
Recently I took a holiday flight to Portugal with BA and this reminded me to get in contact with you.
I was in business class and was served with a delicious traditional English breakfast. Sausage, bacon, omelette and fried tomato. It looked really tasty. My wife was served first and warned me that the omelette contained cheese. Very cunning plan I thought – they nearly caught me!
I have travelled with many other airlines and they are one of the best. Except for the cheese issue!
Thought you might be amused as a fellow cheese hater! – Nicholas Martin, Disraeli Crescent, High Wycombe
