Transport for Bucks have confirmed they will "review signage requirements" on Icknield Way.

The decision comes after residents called for signs to go up around the entrances of the Byway, which has a 60mph speed limit, warning drivers that pedestrians and horses use the road.

Gordon Lenton, whose dog was killed on Icknield Way by a motorbike in June, said Bucks County Council had an obligation to let drivers know that people are walking in the road.

He said: "We don’t seem to have any signs up there to warn people that you are mixing people and vehicles. It should be put there to warn drivers". Councillor Alan Turner agreed that signs should be installed and confirmed that the Town Council would write to Bucks County Council to ask if it would be possible.

Transport for Buckinghamshire have since responded to the calls for new signage.

Their statement said: "The path in question is a Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) and can be used by motor vehicles during the summer months. It is very unusual for warning signage to be displayed on byways because generally users should be aware that such routes are open to all users.

"However, TfB will review signage requirements and if it is felt necessary install signage that is both appropriate and in keeping with the rural nature of the path."
