Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee are bringing their trademark glitz and glamour to the Wycombe Swan this November.

Arguably two of the UK’s favourite entertainers, Paul and Debbie are taking to the road again with their latest tour, Back Despite Popular Demand. The magical pair will perform a selection of their favourite and best-loved magic and illusions as well as some brand new tricks never performed in public before.

Paul’s wife and glamorous assistant Debbie, 56, said: we want everybody to just have a great night, away from the drudgery of normal life. It’s a really, really good night out. There’s lots of comedy, it’s very glamorous and of course there is lots of baffling magic too.

Paul remained tight-lipped when asked what the audience could expect to see because he didn’t want to ruin any surprises, but laughed: "the magic really is so baffling that other magicians are now writing to me asking how we’re doing it, which is really nice!"

Paul and Debbie first began performing together in 1979, when Debbie worked on stage with Paul during his summer show in Great Yarmouth. Since then, they’ve toured hundreds of times, Paul has hosted his own show, The Paul Daniels Show, and appeared on countless others, as well as becoming the only magician to receive all the top awards of the famous London Magic Circle.

Paul, who was also awarded the prestigious Golden Grolla award in May, is inspiring a whole new generation of magic lovers.

As well as running a successful magic shop in Wigan and www.pauldanielsmagicshop.com, which gives masterclasses and tips on how to do the tricks themselves, their last two nationwide tours, Hair Today Gone Tomorrow and From Legend to Leg End, received critical acclaim and sold out in many venues across the country.

Debbie said: "Our management got phone calls from other theatres saying ‘we’ve heard from a theatre manager that had the show how successful it was, can we have it too?"

In the TV world, no one can take Paul’s crown as magical legend, and he’s not worried that younger magicians like Dynamo (who once described Paul as the Godfather of Magic), might try and take his place. Paul said: "Magic is one of the oldest art forms. Magic is defiance of all the natural rules and laws that bind us on the planet, everything your physics teacher says you can’t do, we do it. The best thing about magic is it doesn’t change at all. The only thing that has changed is our dress style!

"Dynamo is good, he’s a nice lad. He’s just doing the same as what we did and still are doing."

Despite international fame and entertaining the likes of Prince William, Prince Harry, The Sultan of Brunei, The Sultan of Oman, Prince Rainier of Monaco and John Major, Paul and Debbie both love going back to their roots and performing in more intimate venues, so the Wycombe Swan audience are in for a treat.

Paul said: "I much prefer it. You get much more of a one on one with the audience, we talk to them, some of them know each other as regular visitors to the theatre, we just have a party, and it’s great."

The duo, who married in Bucks in April 1988, love touring together and show no signs of slowing down just yet.

Debbie said: "After this tour, we’ve got four days off then we go to Granada in Spain to do some gala shows for a week. Through December, I have a radio show on BBC Radio Berkshire every Sunday morning so I will keep that up, but we’re going to have Christmas off, then in January, we’re going to America to do some more shows!"

Over thirty years of touring hasn’t dampened their love of being on the road and their latest tour, which began in September, is no exception.

Debbie said: "We’ve really, really loved this tour. We’ve toured for a long time and we know what to expect now, we’ve ironed out the little details like packing for shows, which can make a tour difficult.

"We just say every night; it’s like going to a party rather than going to work."

Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee are bringing their Back Despite Popular Demand tour to the Wycombe Swan on Thursday, November 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18.50, with a £1.50 booking fee, available from www.wycombeswan.co.uk.
