A SPECIAL message from the Prime Minister is to be broadcast on a community radio station when it hits the airwaves next month.

Radio Christmas will be going live from its base in Amersham at 6am on December 1 and will broadcast until Christmas Day.

The station was the brainchild of resident Duncan Dyason - who is also the founder of the Street Kids Direct charity, which will receive financial support from Radio Christmas throughout the month.

He said: "We are really excited for Radio Christmas this year. We have lots of new shows, some big ideas and some fantastic community involvement with events like the Amersham Christmas Showcase and the Big Give.

"We were also delighted to receive a message from David Cameron this year. He will be releasing a specially recorded Christmas message for Radio Christmas. We are excited to get this level of support for our work and hope that his message will add weight to our appeal to make a difference in the lives of some of the poorest children in Latin America."

The monthly schedule for the station will include regular breakfast and drive-time presenters and a daily two-hour community show, which will include special guests such as the Mayor of Amersham Liz Walsh, the town's MP Cheryl Gillan and a as-yet unnamed BBC newsreader.

Radio Christmas is looking for presenters, newsreaders and general helpers to be part of the team, as well as inviting businesses in the area to get involved with advertising and sponsorship.

Mr Dyason said: "As ever we are looking for lots of people young and old to come and help and find out first hand what it's like to be part of a live radio station.

"Every single penny of every single donation made to Radio Christmas goes directly to the projects supported by Street Kids Direct. Nobody is paid and there are no admin fees. However, putting on a radio station does require us to pay for licenses and equipment so we invite businesses to benefit from our high listenership by advertising."

Anyone interested in taking part can get in touch through www.radiochristmas.co.uk. The shows will be available to listen to online and on the 87.7FM frequency in the Amersham area.
