Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is coming to the Wycombe Swan this month.

Starring Danielle Hope, winner of TV’s Over the Rainbow, former Eastenders actor Matt Lapinskas as Pharoah and X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels as Joseph himself, the show retells the biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours.

X Factor finalist Lloyd, who was the youngest act in the show appearing aged just 18, has been busy since his stint on the reality show back in 2009: “It’s been crazy, I’ve done so much. Loads of gigs and festivals and a few panto productions.”

Now, Lloyd is turning to musical theatre, making his debut in the critically acclaimed and record breaking musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sparkling family show is the UK’s longest running musical and despite this production being his stage debut, nerves haven’t got the better of Lloyd.

“It was daunting to begin with but now that we’ve been on the road for two months, I feel like I’m finding my place. I do get nervous about being in a new theatre every week. It’s not the role itself I get nervous about now, it’s how I sound in a new theatre! It’s different for each theatre, some are round, some are square, some are small or big. It’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I get nervous about now. I'm really enjoying playing Joseph, so I don’t get worried about that so much.”

Bill Kenright’s production of the famous story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis has become an international hit with people of all ages. So what can the audience expect from the stunning family show? With the help of some unforgettable songs like Any Dream Will Do and Those Canaan Days, glitzy costumes and sparkling set design, Lloyd agrees that the audience are in for a treat.

“It’s a really fun experience. That’s exactly what this show is about, having fun. It’s for all audience members whether you’re four or 80! That’s the whole point of the show for me. You just go out there and you give the best performance you can and the audience are constantly smiling. There are some dark times in the performance but that’s all meant to build up towards the end. It is a show you should just go and see and enjoy.”

The cast have been performing together for over two months now and luckily, they enjoy working together. Lloyd said: “the cast are absolutely amazing. Everybody puts 100% into every performance. It’s so nice to have a cast that are all working really hard together as a team.”

Some actors dread reading reviews of their performances, but Lloyd believes reading them can help your performance.

“I do read some reviews; I think if you get a good one it gives you the confidence in what you’re doing. I’ve done well; I like to say to that to myself! It’s really nice to see, because I didn’t know if the audience would take to me or not, what with me being an x factor contestant. I've been quite lucky and I think it’s based on the people around me as well because we’re all so comfortable with each other and I feel like I've blended in quite well.”

Lloyd admits the experience has been ‘absolutely amazing’, but surprisingly, he didn’t originally audition for the role of Joseph.

He said: “I went down for a meeting at Bill’s [Kenwright] offices. The meeting went really well, they asked if I would sing a few songs and I did and then they contacted me a few weeks later. It wasn’t the role of Joseph I was going in for, I just wanted to see what my voice would sound like in a musical theatre setting. And they offered me the main role which was amazing!”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is showing at the Wycombe Swan from Tuesday 25 to Saturday November 29.
