A recycling centre in Amersham has been closed due to a spate of vandalism and fly tipping.

Officials from Chiltern District Council have taken the decision to remove the recycling centre from the multi storey car park in King George V Road due to the build-up of waste there.

And they have warned anybody leaving rubbish where the centre used to be could end up being charged with fly tipping.

The council said in a statement: "The recycling centre at the multi storey car park on King George V Road in Amersham has experienced a number of issues including fly-tipping, vandalism, illegal deposit of trade waste and the presence of unauthorised or 'rogue' banks. We conducted a public consultation into the current usage and future of the site.

"The overall response strongly supported the removal of the recycling bins and therefore the bins were removed. You will no longer be able to recycle at this site."

Residents are being directed to a different recycling centre in the car park at the Community Centre in nearby Chiltern Avenue.
