A new home built in the Marlow countryside is in the running to be named the best in the country after winning a regional industry award.

Hawkins Cottage in Frieth - designed by Marlow-based Bowen Evans Consultancy and built by Trymac Construction – was named Best Individual New Home for the central region at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2015.

LABC is a not-for-profit membership organisation representing all local authority building control teams in England and Wales.

The traditional brick and flint home was nominated for the award by Wycombe District Council, who said the house was an example of “building excellence in the delivery of outstanding construction and workmanship.”

The Threshing Barn in Saunderton won the award for Best Individual New House and Best Conversion.

The former barn was  built by Prothero Country Homes and designed by Cannon, Morgan & Rheinberg Partnership

Penelope Tollitt, Head of Planning and Sustainability at Wycombe District Council said: "This is a real 'pat on the back' for us - it's great that we've achieved regional recognition for our work.

"Award-winning buildings like these are the result of our staff working effectively with architects, surveyors and builders on all kinds of projects and they reflect the hard work, innovation and the high standards of our local building control team."

The projects have now been put forward for the national finals, to be held at the Lancaster Hotel in London later this year.
