Tree-mendous volunteers from the Women’s Institute have joined in special centenary celebrations by decorating a tree in Little Marlow.
As part of a national initiative, the Little Marlow and Well End WI have been making decorations for weeks and the new mayor of the town today unveiled their creation and said he was glad the strong wind had not ruined their good work.
During a small ceremony at Little Marlow Cricket Club, in Church Road, this afternoon the group revealed their design work as they aim to raise awareness of the organisation.
New mayor of Marlow, councillor Bob Johnson, said: “It was fantastic, and I’m so pleased that it did remain dry and so many people have put so much work in, it really is very good indeed.
“The decorations are absolutely fantastic and the amount of detail that has gone into producing them is phenomenal.
“And, I’m so pleased they managed to get it there and it stayed there despite the wind we have had.”
He was joined by Little Marlow Parish Council chairman, Valerie Brownridge, who cut the ribbon.
Group president Maggie Ryan talked about the history of the WI during the afternoon and thanked members for their “imagination” and hard work in creating the decorations.
