A family-owned High Wycombe manufacturer of medical devices is set to fulfil a long held ambition of opening their own production facility this month.

Mediplus, which was established in High Wycombe in 1986 and is currently located on the Cressex Business Park, will open its own cleanroom on October 30.

Although Mediplus products, which include diagnostic and operating room equipment, have been manufactured to their design, they have been produced by manufacturing partners in the UK and abroad.

Now, chairman and founder of the award-winning company, Bob Urie, is fulfilling his dream to have their own production facility with a £500,000 investment – something he could never have imagined having when he first started.

Mr Urie said: “Having started the business in 1986, working from home in Flackwell Heath, warehousing the products and despatching from the garage, it was a dream then to build a family business that could be passed on to my children.

“29 years later my daughter is managing director of both Mediplus and our latest venture, Mediplus Manufacturing, and my son sales and marketing director, driving business forward in the UK and overseas.

“As well as acting as UK distributor for overseas companies, our prime focus has always been the sales and marketing of products of our own design, which have been manufactured for us predominantly in the UK.

“However, the ultimate ambition was to create our own production facility, giving us greater control over the design, manufacture and quality of our products that are improving the lives of patients worldwide. This has been realised with the setting up of Mediplus Manufacturing and its cleanroom on Cressex Business Park.”

The introduction of the new cleanroom has also provided job opportunities for at least eight more people, who have been employed to work in the manufacturing business and the company are currently recruiting for more operatives.

The cleanroom will be officially opened by The Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, with the Mayor of High Wycombe Councillor Mohammed Hanif, and Executive Leader of Wycombe District Council, Councillor Katrina Wood, expected to attend.

Across the UK, the Mediplus Group now employs over 40 people, 30 of them at the Cressex head office and cleanroom.

They also have a French company employing three people full-time, and plans to establish subsidiaries in Germany and the USA.
