WORK on the new Sainsbury's store in High Wycombe gets underway in just four days time.

Builders will start on Monday on the £45million project to relocate the current store, in Dovecot Road, to its new home in Oxford Road.

The supermarket giant has been waiting two years to start working on its new state-of-the-art store, which is due to open in 2009.

But shoppers should not expect to see any real change until July when the demolition of empty buildings in Oxford Road starts to make way for the new store.

Bill Jennings, cabinet member for economic development at Wycombe District Council, said: "Sainsbury's new store will complement the adjacent Eden development and we are pleased that work is about to start on what will be another landmark building for the town."

The glass fronted store will be more than twice the size of the existing store and will include two car park floors above it.
