The company behind the controversial HS2 railway line is continuing to treat the Chilterns' public with "contempt", according to a district councillor.

The planned high-speed rail project will run through the Chilterns' Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are growing concerns over the increased traffic in the area while it is undergoing construction.

Chiltern District councillor Seb Berry confirmed that of the 36 petitions that he submitted to the government, all but one were challenged by HS2 Ltd.

Petitions have centred over disputed traffic projections released for HS2.

During a CDC meeting last night, Cllr Peter Jones said: "HS2 Ltd continue to treat the public of the Chilterns with contempt, which it has done for the last six years."

"We are still upset about it," added Councillor Nick Rose. "At the moment there is a great deal of angst. We need to have a plan B and C."

It was confirmed that the Amersham Action Group would fund the legal costs of a challenge to HS2 Ltd's petition challenges.

Hearings are set for January 5 and 6.
