The Friday night headliner for what is tipped to be the 'best ever' PennFest has been announced by organisers.

Britpop foursome Ocean Colour Scene, best known for hits like 'The Day We Caught The Train' and 'Riverboat Song', will be taking to the main stage on Friday, July 22 at the popular family festival.

The band have just sold out their first gigs in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of their hit album Moseley Shoals, which were announced in Leeds and Birmingham.

The group is set to play their critically-acclaimed second album in full at PennFest.

It was announced at the end of January that Shaun Ryder is set to return to the festival, in the Big Park on Horsemoor Lane, Penn, for the second year in a row - this time with his bad Black Grape.

Alternative rock band Ash will also join the impressive line-up, while De La Soul, Toploader, Reef, Rizzle Kicks, Fun Lovin' Criminals, The Lightning Seeds, Soul II Soul, Chas and Dave, Shed Seven and Ms Dynamite are also confirmed.

Dizzee Rascal is set to be headlining on the Saturday.

The family-friendly music event will run for two days, Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23, instead of three this year, but organisers are promising that the sixth annual festival will be the ‘best ever’.

The big top stage and the old skool warehouse will return for 2016, featuring well-known DJs and local bands.

As well as music, creative workshops, a global artisan market, featuring art stalls and a range of bars and food outlets will also feature again this year.

There will be plenty of activities to keep children busy including arts and crafts, street entertainers and a circus workshop.

Camping onsite will be available from July 22 to 24, with free hot showers, a quieter family zone, plus glamping with Wow Tents and pre-pitched tents from Camplitude.
