A STRANDED dog was found lying by the roadside after it was abandoned.

The elderly dog was discovered by a motorist in Chinnor still wearing her lead and lying matted, freezing and frightened.

Luckily for Sadie, as she is now known, the driver took compassion on the matted mutt and took her to the care and safety of Stokenchurch Dog Rescue.

The friendly old dog is thought to be aged around 12 or 13 and was discovered in a terrible condition with badly infect- ed ears.

Other problems included a bad leg, sore hair and she is also now blind in one eye.

It remains unclear how long Sadie had been left lying by the roadside when she was found on May 11 and no one has yet come forward to claim her. She also had no microchip which may have helped identify her.

All the matted hair and cuts and bumps have now been treated by a vet but Susan Berryman, manager at the rescue centre in Oxford Road, says that Sadie still remains fragile.

Susan added: "Sadie was in a really bad way. She has been through so much but is still a loving dog, it just goes to show how forgiving dogs can be. All the matted hair has now been cut away and she looks much better than she did."

Currently, the brave old trooper is living in the staff room at the rescue centre.

Susan is hopeful that a kind foster carer may come forward to help Sadie live out her last few days in a loving home.

She added: "She is a very friendly dog and we really hope to find her a foster home."
