Ahead of tomorrow’s EDL march police have been given the power to order protesters to remove any item which they believe is for the purpose of concealing their identity.

As part of the large scale operation enforced by police for the EDL march on Saturday police have been authorised to use section 60AA of the criminal justice and public order act.

Anyone failing to comply with the request will be committee a criminal offence according to Thames Valley Police.

Police also said their aim is to maximise safety and help to exercise the right to protest peacefully as well as minimising disruption.

According to police around 1000 EDL demonstrators are expected to descend on High Wycombe tomorrow.

Although police have reassured the public over what they hope will be a peaceful protest, officers carrying shields, mounted horse patrols, dog units and helicopters are all expected to be present.
