More than 100 people came together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday in Flackwell Heath on Saturday.
Christ Church in Chapel Road was decked out in Union Jack flags on Saturday, April 23, when Oasis, a bereavement self-help group, organised their biggest event ever in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrated her 90th birthday last Thursday.
Around 144 people were treated to afternoon tea, musical performances and artefact displays, while Peter Smith, who makes large scale models of royal carriages, was on hand to speak about his work.
The Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Kenneth Ross and his wife Nancy attended, and Reverend Chris Bull gave a speech.
Richard Chalmers, who runs the evening Oasis group and helped organise the event, said: “It was fantastic and a really lovely afternoon. We really gave everyone the red carpet treatment.
“We put on a luxury afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones and cakes prepared by myself and the team.
“That was the biggest event we have ever done, we have never catered for that many people before. We really wanted to do something in celebration of the Queen’s birthday so we organised it a year in advance.
“It was a wonderful afternoon.”
The Oasis group meets at Christ Church and is open to everyone in the area who has suffered a bereavement. The group organises seaside holidays and events and supports people who have lost loved ones.
