A PERSON was killed in a five vehicle pile-up on the M40 this morning. An articulated lorry, two vans and two cars were involved in the crash between Beaconsfieldd and Gerrards Cross at around 8.40am.

Three fire crews from Beaconsfield, Amersham and High Wycombe were called to the scene and released two people from the wreckage.

Rush hour traffic was brought to a standstill as police blocked off all lanes of the motorway travelling southbound.

By around 11am they had opened one lane to let cars filter through.

Meanwhile, the three people who were killed in Thursday's smash on the Loudwater flyover of the M40 have today been named by police.

Collin Barton, 58, from Birmingham, Colin Ledger, 30 and Deborah Pearmain, 38, both from Houghton Regis,near Dunstable, died after a lorry travelling towards Oxford smashed through the central reservation and into the path of oncoming traffic.

A further 11 people were injured in the seven-vehicle pile up, but all have since been released from Wexham Park Hospital in Slough
