Energetic pre-school children became the latest group of athletes to enjoy a summer of sporting success, making the most of a one-off sports day during a High Wycombe nursery’s return to its former grounds as part of a special anniversary celebration.
Staff at The Sandcastle Nursery, in Sands, feared they faced an uphill struggle when looking to plan a summer sports day this year, with the slopes on their grounds too much of a tall order for their current intake.
However, the youngsters were jumping for joy when the nursery organised to use the playing fields at Millbrook Combined School, in Mill End Road, for the special occasion – 25 years after the nursery was formed on the very same grounds.
Managing director Francesca Smalley said: “We used to be based at the school 25 years ago and celebrated our anniversary earlier this year.
“It was great to be able to go back and the children really enjoyed it.”
More than 200 people, including the children, parents and staff, joined in with the fun on the day, taking part in a series of races including toddler toddles, the egg and spoon and pushchair races.
