Three of Marlow's biggest events look set to be replaced by one celebration from next year, in a bid to "refresh" the town's event programme.

'Celebrate Marlow' will be held for the first time on March 18 2017 and will be an annual event from then on.

The new event will combine the senior citizens’ lunch, the veterans’ lunch and the regatta reception - though the council has reassured residents that it will still have a "presence" at the regatta.

Up to 300 people will be invited to the new daytime occasion at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fieldhouse Lane, which is partnering with Marlow Town Council in supporting the event.

Guests will include members of the Marlow community and there will be speakers and award presentations involving all sectors of the town, including its associations and volunteers.

Cllr Bob Johnson, town mayor, said the budget for all three of the popular events will be "brought together to create something really special."

He said: “The idea is to create a new, prestigious event which will bring the entire Marlow community together, making everyone feel acknowledged and special.

“We want the whole town to celebrate Marlow; this will be the biggest event in the Marlow calendar.

"Our aim is to refresh Marlow’s annual events programme and offer a better experience for all.”
