A 27-year-old man has been jailed for six years after hitting another man over the head with a glass in a High Wycombe pub, which left the victim requiring hospital treatment.

Francy McDonagh of Prince Street, Newport, south Wales, was involved in a fight inside the Beaconsfield Arms, Hughenden Road, at around 11.30pm on May 10 this year.

He hit the victim, a 25-year-old man, with a glass, causing lacerations to his head and bruising to his face.

McDonagh was charged with one count of GBH on July 31, and was convicted and sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court sitting at Amersham on Tuesday (December 13), police confirmed today. He pleaded guilty.

Investigating officer Det Con Nathan Davey of High Wycombe Force CID, said: “This sentence shows that such violent behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Pubs are places where people go to socialise and enjoy themselves, and incidents like this put the general public at risk.

“I hope that this case serves as a warning and makes people think before involving themselves in violent behaviour in the future.”
