The energetic and entertaining musical comedy Sister Act will be staged by University Centre Weston (UCW) degree students at the Theatre Royal Windsor from November 13 to 18.

The award-winning show is based on the 1992 blockbuster film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg and additional material from the book written by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner and Douglas Carter Beane.

The feel good musical, which has sold more than six million tickets worldwide, also includes music by the Tony and Oscar-winning Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

The production tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who, after witnessing a murder, goes into witness protection in a convent.

Despite coming up against an uptight Mother Superior, Deloris breathes new life into the convent choir, but her cover is blown by doing so.

Soon Deloris and her newfound sisterhood are up against a murderous gang intent on revenge.

Sylvia Lane, who is producing the show on behalf of UCW’s Academy of Performing Arts, said: “We are proud to present this dazzling show at the Theatre Royal Windsor, with set and costumes provided by UK Productions.

“Cast and creatives have worked tirelessly to make this a production of the highest professional calibre, demonstrating the fantastic talent of our students.”

The production is being directed by Ged Stephenson and choreographed by Joe Miller, with musical direction by Leon Trayman.

UCW graduate Sian Gentle-Green, who has worked professionally in theatre and television, is donning the habit of Deloris van Cartier.

The cast also includes talented UCW students and recent graduates from the degree programmes in Musical Theatre and Performing Arts, which are delivered in partnership by Bath Spa University.
