A FEMALE pedestrian has been taken to hospital this evening after being hit by a car in High Wycombe town centre.

The woman, who has not been named, was crossing Queen Victoria Road at around 4.35pm when the accident happened.

She was crossing from the side of the road where the library and police station are situated.

The car, a green Vauxhall Omega, was being recovered at the scene as police shut the road for around 90 minutes.

Officers would not reveal how serious her condition was but said she had been taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury.

The road has now re-opened but police remained at the scene afterwards.
