A £1.2 million extension to a Princes Risborough swimming and fitness centre will finally get underway this year.

Plans to revamp the Risborough Springs Swim and Fitness Centre have been in the pipeline for years, but Wycombe District Council now hopes the extension will go ahead in 2018.

While designs for the centre have not yet been finalised, the extension will include a bigger gym and dedicated fitness studio.

At the moment, any studio classes have to take place in the nearby community centre due to a lack of space.

If the plans are agreed at full council on February 22, WDC plans to partner with Places for People Leisure - which currently looks after all the council's leisure facilities - to design and carry out the extension work.

Cllr Graham Peart, Wycombe District Council's cabinet member for Community, said: "We’re investing in Risborough Springs Swim and Fitness Centre to provide new and improved leisure facilities for people who live in and around Princes Risborough.

"We know that there is increasing demand, so this extension will provide much-needed new facilities and meet residents' requirements both now and in the future."

It is expected that designs will be developed and a planning application submitted by summer, with works due to start in the autumn.
