An iconic Bucks building that houses a major charity hub looks set to be turned into apartments.

The Clare Charity Centre on Wycombe Road in Saunderton, is currently a base for dozens of charitable organisations including Child Bereavement UK, Adviza and Buckinghamshire Disability Service (BuDS), but plans have been submitted to turn it into flats.

The historic building - which is set in 12 acres of land - could be transformed into 59 apartments after developers submitted a planning application to Wycombe District Council last week.

The Clare Charity Centre is currently in the process of being sold to Martin Property Group and MCR, the Clare Foundation has announced.

The centre will "continue to operate as normal" and the majority of staff will transfer their employment to a "joint venture organisation" as the building is sold.

Negotiations regarding the property are due to be finalised within the next few months.

The Clare Foundation has revealed it has undertaken a "major strategic review" over the past year and will adopt more online services and activities in a bid to help more charities.

It has not yet been confirmed if the charities based at The Clare Charity Centre will be moved elsewhere.

In a statement sent to the press, The Clare Foundation said: "It became apparent during the strategic review that the demand for the foundation’s services could be met by a new operating model and structure and, whilst very aware this would have an impact on a great many people and organisations, the foundation feels it is the right course of action for the future growth and resilience of the organisation.

"In this change the foundation can dramatically increase its ability to reach far more people, impact on wider numbers of topics and sectors and significantly strengthen the third sector not just in the local area but potentially nationally.

"The new operating model is being developed and fine-tuned now and the foundation will announce more in the coming months."
