A Cannonball Run-themed charity event raised more than £7,500 for hospice patients.

The event was held in Fulmer’s Black Horse Pub earlier this year in memory of Carol Shipp, who passed away at the Michael Sobell Hospice in December last year.

The event, organised by Carol’s daughter Natalie Lane, together with Andrew Wood and Richard Walker saw a 1946 Bedford Bus join the party to commemorate the year she was born.

The rally saw cars rev off from outside the pub to undertake a 70-mile round trip, ending up back to base for an auction and raffle, with prizes including Arsenal match tickets and memorabilia signed by Sir Roger Moore.

Speaking about the fundraiser, Natalie said: “It was a fantastic day and I would like to say a huge thank you to The Black Horse pub who kindly hosted the event.

“We couldn’t have done it without your support.”

Michael Sobell Hospice events manager Ophelia Chambers-Henry said: “On behalf of everyone involved with Michael Sobell Hospice, thank you so much for this wonderful donation.

“It certainly will go a long way to ensuring local people and their families are supported when they need it most.”
