A much-loved grandmother who was well known throughout High Wycombe is the inspiration behind a brave fundraiser’s bid to overcome her fear of heights and take part in a daredevil skydive for charity.

Lex Moon, a mental health specialist pharmacist, will be taking the plunge next month in support of Rennie Grove Hospice Care, who helped look after her grandma Pamela Camp before she passed away.

Along with other charity skydivers, Lex will make the tandem jump from 13,000ft above the Berkshire countryside at Hinton Airfield on June 10.

And as the big day approaches, Lex admits that the butterflies are building.

She said: “I am petrified of heights and the idea of throwing myself out of a plane is one that fills me with dread and anxiety. To give you an idea of how bad I am - I even struggle climbing a ladder."

The weekend of the planned jump marks two years since Lex lost her grandma following her long battle with cancer.

Lex said: “She was a massive part of my life, and her love, support and kindness throughout my life definitely helped shape me into the person I am today.

“Rennie Grove nurses were an invaluable source of care and support during her last few weeks.

"Their Hospice at Home service allowed my grandma to receive the care she needed, when she needed it, in her own home and at any time, day or night.

"No call, request or concern was 'too small' and the nurses made the whole family – most especially my grandma – feel supported and comfortable at a time which could have been completely the opposite.”

Describing her motivation for taking on the daunting task, she added: “People who need to use Rennie Grove’s services have no choice about the fears and challenges they have to push through, but they manage to do it each and every day with the support of the Rennie Grove nurses.

"Any challenge I set myself is, in comparison, nowhere near as big as those the patients and nurses face each day so I decided that I needed to man up and push through the fear.”

Lex has managed to smash her £750 target and currently her total stands at £1,075.
