A centenarian celebrated her 100th birthday this week surrounded by her loved ones.
Janet Graham has lived in Gerrards Cross for 18 years and marked the milestone at Buckingham House Care Home on Wednesday with a party.
Born and raised in Bristol, Mrs Graham moved to Gerrards Cross in 2000 to be near her two children, who live in the town, after her husband George died, saying she has been “very happy” living in the town.
She married George, an officer in the merchant navy, in 1948, and moved into the care home in January this year after, she said, living at home was “no longer an option” since breaking her hip last December.
Mrs Graham was a keen badminton and tennis player and continued playing until the age of 80, only stopping after she broke her wrist while playing tennis.
Staff at the care home said she was “amazed” that she was 100 and kept asking, “Am I really?” while reading her birthday card and message from the Queen.
