This is how a new artist’s community hub made of shipping containers in High Wycombe is set to look.
DesBox will feature 52 studio units made from 135 recycled shipping containers in Baker Street as part of Wycombe District Council’s plan to revitalise the area.
The complex of art studios – which will house many of the artists displaced by the demolition of their old base in Leigh Street to make way for housing – has been designed and will be constructed by a company called Container City.
The new artist’s impression, released by Container City, shows the shipping container buildings will be arranged across three floors and there will also be a ground floor café and storage rooms of different sizes.
It will be produced in Container City’s Suffolk factory.
The project is one of several new developments in High Wycombe aimed to regenerate the area with a new Aldi Supermarket, a car dealership and workshop.
Henry Fraser, Container City projects director, said: “Our long history of providing creative workspace gave us the inspiration for the original DesBox design and we are delighted to be selected by Wycombe District Council to see this project through to completion.”
The building is expected to remain in place for at least 20 years. Work is due to be completed on the complex in February 2019.
