It's a shame the Bucks Free Pree still gets a stream of letters - persuasive and seemingly credible (some authors long-list their 'initials', 'ology's and 'hons' after their names) - trying to 'rubbish' those who call for restraint in the burning of fossil fuels and the accompanying release of fresh CO2. I understand Mr Weedon's concerns, and I am going to speak from the heart.

Mr Weedon, you beat a lonely, discredited and dangerous drum. There are very few free thinking people who still deny the reality of fossil fuelled climate chaos. It has been pointed out to you before, in this column, that your letters could inadvertently be taken as an invitation to do nothing. You surely cannot want readers to relax about overconsumption, reassured by your convenient and popular (but wholly erroneous) belief that there is still some scientific doubt that CO2 drives climate chaos. What is your true intent?

The credible sounding sources cited as definitive references have all been discredited. The vehement rejection of the real need to cut the carbon is almost comical. Or would be, were the consequences of us all getting it wrong not so very serious.

BFP is even accused of prejudice. Quite so! In my book BFP has historically been slow to report the fact that manmade CO2 is a problem: until now the media have been biased in favour of those who would have us burn more oil, with gay abandon.

Befuddled (and perhaps bored!) readers would do well to consult a body like The Royal Society for an answer to end all this nonsense. Fortunately they have produced an overview of the current state of scientific understanding of climate change to help busy non-experts. The subject is indeed complex, but crucially, it is NOT uncertain. Their pithy conclusion - www.royalsoc.ac.uk - home page - item headed "Is Global Warming a Swindle" - is an easy read. Readers will find it crystal clear, if alarmingly unequivocal.

Climate chaos is real and present danger, and potentially catastrophic for us all. It is sad that some would seek to sow doubt - when the consequences of ongoing inaction to cut the carbon will plunge our children further into jeopardy.
