YOUR journalist was kind enough to call me last week and quote some of my comments in the Free Press.

Councillor Ms Wassell should come over and meet more Marlow people than the friends she says she has in the area.

A very high proportion of the people I speak to are strongly in favour of the SPA which she is seeking to have scrapped by Bucks County Council.

A public meeting was being arranged in Marlow for the end of September to explain the process in anticipation of the SPA coming into effect next spring, and I hope that will still go ahead.

From the private meetings we have had with county and district officers we councillors are confident it will solve many of Marlow's traffic and parking problems.

Strangely, Ms Wassell doesn't seem to have grasped that the SPA will cover the whole of the Wycombe District area, but, as she doesn't come to many of our council meetings as well, it is not surprising she has not been in the loop. She also appears to have no friends in Chiltern District, because they have had an SPA since 2004, and I am sure I would have read in your paper if it was "expensive and undemocratic". In fact, since coming to power in 1997 the Labour Government has created many SPAs, and as a Labour councillor and aspiring MP she should be expressing her views to the relevant minister rather than trying to deprive Marlow residents of something they have been asking for many years.
