An electricity sub-station exploded in Bourne End last night – leaving some residents, who reported hearing a “huge bang”, without power for hours.
Firefighters raced to Telston Close in the village just after 9pm last night after nearby residents heard two “explosions” at the electricity sub-station.
The crews, from Marlow and Beaconsfield, put up a safety cordon around the sub-station following the explosion – but residents in the HP10 area suffered power cuts.
SSE said they were aware of an issue in the area and sent a team of engineers to the site to isolate the sub-station, aiming to restore the power by midnight.
Residents living in Wooburn Moor, Flackwell Heath and Loudwater also reported suffering power cuts or flickering lights.
