A popular recycling centre is Marlow is set to close down.

The facility in Wiltshire Road will be closed and removed by Wycombe District Council (WDC) and the Joint Waste Team on July 24, according to a letter to a resident seen by the Marlow Free Press.

The council carried out a survey on residents’ use of the site, saying the feedback it received “helped inform the decision” to close and remove the centre.

The letter said: “Disposing of extra recycling was a common comment given in the survey, for reasons to use the site.

“We of course want to encourage residents to recycle as much as possible, however there are alternative solutions for extra recycling, and it is not viable for us to keep a recycling site open for a limited number of residents who should have access to the kerbside collection scheme.”

The council said it would collect extra recycling on scheduled collection days if residents’ blue mixed recycling bin or paper and cardboard boxes are full.

Residents have been advised to to put any extra recycling waste in a suitable container - but not a carrier bag.

WDC added that it would contact Red Kite, which owns the land the recycling bins sit on, who will look in to alternative uses for the land after the bins have been removed.

Bucks County Councillor for Marlow, Alex Collingwood, said he was “not surprised” at the closure, adding: “In my mind, we should have kept the one in the centre of the town because it was much closer to the people of Marlow.”
