A sick video showing a group of yobs kicking and hitting a cat in Burnham is being investigated by police.

The shocking clip, which has gone viral on Facebook after it was shared in a bid to find the boys who carried out the horrifying attack, shows the defenceless pet being beaten with ropes and a baseball bat and kicked in the head.

In the footage, which was originally posted on Snapchat, one of the boys can be heard saying: "Where's that lost cat gone?" while holding a missing poster for a black cat named Kiki.

He then says: "You killed it yeah?" before laughing loudly.

The video then cuts to a picture of the missing poster with the caption: "RIP".

It then shows the males attacking the cat, with one hitting it with a baseball bat while the others laugh in the background.

One says: "Oi, do it again!".

Another member of the gang then approaches the cat's body on the floor and kicks it in the head while one says: "That's a nice pussy cat."

It has not been confirmed if the cat that was beaten in the senseless attack was the missing cat Kiki.

Thames Valley Police said they are investigating reports of animal cruelty in a woodland area of Burnham, which is said to have taken place on Saturday, July 21.

No arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "This footage is extremely disturbing and distressing to watch - it must have been so upsetting for the poor owners of Kiki.

“It is unclear from the footage whether the cat had been found alive or dead prior to this attack - but if anyone has any information about this we would urge them to get in contact with us on 0300 123 4999.

“The RSPCA works hard to try to encourage and promote compassion and kindness to animals through its education programs to young people and schools across the country.”
