Repairs to a major footbridge have been delayed again.

The A404 Volvo footbridge, which crosses over the dual carriageway into Marlow, was initially going to be taken off-site for a new paint system to be applied in May and July, causing the A404 to be closed in both directions.

But the work was pushed back to early August as the May closure would have coincided with the Pub in the Park food festival.

It has now been postponed again, by four weeks, from August 3 to August 31.

The first weekend closure of the A404 to remove the footbridge is scheduled to take place from 9pm of August 31 until 5am on September 3.

During this time, the A404 will be closed in both directions between the junction with the A4155 just outside Marlow and the Bisham Roundabout.

Parkway will also be closed from 9pm on the Saturday (September 1) until 6pm the following day.

The second weekend closure is still planned from 9pm on October 12 until 5am on October 15.

Highways England said delays are expected during the closures and is advising drivers to plan ahead of journeys to allow extra time, or avoid the route entirely if possible.

Wycombe district and Bucks county councillor Alex Collingwood said previously that the iconic Marlow Bridge could also be closed overnight over the two weekends in a bid to prevent HGVs and other overweight vehicles abusing the three-tonne weight limit while the A404 is closed.
