SHOPPERS will use a new entrance to get in to Sainsbury's from Tuesday - as major work surrounding the on-going Eden project gets underway.

Its car park will now be entered via Archway, which will take people through the open-air car park, after a new access road was built over the past few weeks.

The exit will still be at Dovecot Road and Bellfield Road, High Wycombe, but you can no longer arrive at the Dovecot Road store from these roads.

These changes will remain in place even after completion of the Eden project but there will be another entrance built from Bellfield Road.

Inside the multi-storey car park there will also be a two-way system in place from Tuesday, with clear signs and traffic management to ensure shoppers are not confused by the changes.

The multi-storey car park will also be refurbished but the building will remain relatively the same and will go back to a one-way system after the developments are complete.

The open-air car park should remain relatively the same and will not be under going any major changes.

Traders will still be able to access Dovecot Road throughout the maintenance work.

Maria Twomey, spokesman for Sainsbury's, said: "These were necessary changes that needed to be made as it is a fairly large development scheme.

"We had experts who decided on how best it could be developed with the least disruption to the people in the area.

"Sainsbury's does not want to disrupt its shoppers and the plans were carefully considered and this is the best way to go about it."

Shops and offices, which had been on the Oxford Road site, have now been pulled down to make way for the new £45 million store.

It will be twice the size of the current one and will be moved from its hidden away location to the front of the Oxford Road.

The glass appearance will be the first one like it in the country and is designed to complement the Eden shopping centre.

Demolition work began last month and should be completed by 2009. The current Sainsbury store will remain open throughout. When the new store opens the old one will be demolished and the land will be left for development by Wycombe District Council.

The subway under the Archway will be revamped to improve pedestrian links between Frogmoor and Eden.

This, combined with the two new carparking floors above the store, will provide shoppers with an extra 260 parking spaces.
