Thousands of people flocked to the banks of the River Thames in Cookham at the weekend as the annual regatta returned to the village.

Jointly organised by the Rotary clubs of Cookham Bridge and Marlow Thames, around 2,000 people descended on the village on Saturday as rowers took to the river for a day of water sports and activities.

The A404 closure for the Volvo footbridge works caused chaos in Marlow and the surrounding area over the weekend, with organisers saying it affected the numbers of people attending the regatta.

This year, sports and gym club members were encouraged to take part, with a club challenge introduced for the first time.

Winning teams were able to nominate a charity to receive £500 of the event’s proceeds, with the regatta choosing Parkinson’s UK as its chosen charity.

Organisers want to set up a dedicated Parkinson’s group for sufferers in the Cookham and Marlow area.

In addition to the river competitions, visitors enjoyed a host of land-based activities, including a bungee trampoline, bouncy castles, plate smashing, water ball, classic car display, rowing machines, dog show, charity stalls and a range of children’s activities.

A brass band entertained crowds throughout the day while food stalls, a tea tent, a bar and a Pimms tent were also available.
