A High Wycombe woman has been sentenced after lying about her council tax reduction.

Ms Amaria Khan, 36, formerly of Bowerdean Road, did not disclose to Wycombe District Council that her partner, Hasnat Khan, had returned to live with her between August 2013 and May 2015.

She also made a false representation on or around June 17, 2016, saying her partner had not moved in with her at Bowerdean Road and he had not lived with her since 2012.

As a result she received a reduction in council tax and did not pay £3,378.39.

She was handed a community order of 120 hours unpaid work to be completed in 12 months, and will need to complete 20 days of Rehabilitative Activity Requirement.

She was also ordered to pay WDC’s costs of £2,159 and a victim surcharge of £85.

Cllr David Watson, cabinet member for finance and resources, said: “We want to reassure our residents that we take council tax fraud seriously and won’t hesitate to prosecute the dishonest few who choose to abuse the system.”
