Kind-hearted staff at a Marlow golf club treated senior members of the public to a complementary meal at the club’s restaurant.

Members of Age Concern Marlow were invited to Harleyford Golf Club, in Henley Road, yesterday (Thursday) for an end of summer sit-down lunch.

General manager Jack Slade said: “This charity is very close to a lot of our hearts and we wanted to embrace the guests who, for a lot of them, wouldn’t usually have the chance to come out to such a nice venue for a meal.”

Around 40 older people attended the lunch, with Mr Slade saying “great fun” was had by all, with the golf club donating all the costs to Age Concern and staff working on a voluntary basis.

Head chef Gary Lowerson put on a hot buffet including Coq au Vin and poached salmon, and bar host Eloise Dollard offered guests a glass of wine each.

Mr Slade added: “It takes a lot of work to put an event such as this on, but it so rewarding when we can sit back and see how much all the attendees and volunteers enjoyed their afternoon.

“It also took a good ten volunteers to pull this day off, whether it was helping mobility or ferrying the guests in the Age Concern minibus.

“As this day was such as success, Harleyford will be looking to do more events like this throughout the years to come to help people less fortunate than us.”
