An unusual four-legged duo paid a visit to delighted residents at a Gerrards Cross care home last week.

Alpacas Enzo and Scally were the VIP guests at Buckingham House, in Oxford Road, on Wednesday, September 26 as they took part in meet-and-greets with the elderly residents.

The visit was hailed a huge success, with activities co-ordinator, Sue Stanco, saying the OAP’s faces “lit up” when the woolly duo entered their rooms.

She said: “It was really good, the residents absolutely loved seeing them. They went into the residents’ rooms, so the residents that are not able to get out of bed were able to see them.

“Then they went upstairs in the lift. They were ever so tame, which is why they are so good to take into care homes.

“It was just great to see the residents interacting with them. Their faces lit up when they walked into the room.

“I organise activities and we do try and get everyone involved, but sometimes the residents who can’t leave their rooms may miss out, so it was good to do something they can get involved with.”

‘Therapy alpacas’ are becoming increasingly popular in care homes across the country due to their calm temperament, with some being used to help comfort dementia patients.

Enzo and Scally are the first in a line of unusual animal visits to the Gerrards Cross care home, as penguins are due to make an appearance next week, while reindeer are set to pay a visit over Christmas.

The pair are usually based at Berkshire farm Wyld Court Alpacas, and have been known to visit other care homes in the area.
