A BUCKS businessman took on the challenge of a lifetime ahead of his 70th birthday by walking 184 miles - and has so far raised more than £4,000 for charity.

Nigel Croxford, the boss of Nigel Croxford Builders in Stokenchurch, took on the epic task of walking the Thames Path from the source to the Thames Barrier in seven days - despite previously having two stents fitted in his heart.

After six consecutive days of walking, the pensioner was forced to call off his mission on the advice of doctors - but he completed the final 21 miles from Putney Bridge over the August bank holiday.

So far, Nigel has raised £4,411 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK - but he hopes to reach £5,000 before his 70th birthday. To donate, go to justgiving.com/fundraising/n-croxford or justgiving.com/fundraising/nigel-croxford
