South Bucks will be at the centre of pollution caused by the major Heathrow expansion, it has been revealed, prompting campaigners to call for the county council to “protect residents”.

A map released by the Civil Aviation Authority shows the south of the county will be one of the areas most affected by increased noise and air pollution once the third runway has been built.

The news comes after South Bucks District Council last month publicly backed the Heathrow expansion – despite concerns over the impact the development will have on residents.

Colnbrook Community Association issued a statement on Twitter urging Bucks County Council to “wake up” and protect residents following the revelation.

Iver Parish Council said it expects Heathrow to provide “significant compensation” to residents affected by the development – however no help has been offered so far.

A spokesman for the parish council said: “The Iver Villages, and Richings Park in particular, will be significantly impacted by the proposed Heathrow expansion both by the noise and by the developments on the ground.

“We expect Heathrow to deliver significant compensation to affected residents and community mitigation for this devastation of our area.  So far we have had no offer of any such help from Heathrow.

“We would expect South Bucks District Council SBDC) and Bucks County Council (BCC) to be also seeking such compensation and mitigation for us from Heathrow but we have had no communication from them either, leaving the local residents to feel that they are being totally ignored by all concerned.”

Cabinet member for planning and environment at BCC, Bill Chapple, said protecting residents across Bucks will continue to be “top priority” as the expansion plans move forward.

He added BCC is working with its partners at SBDC to secure the “best deal” for residents.

He said: “The Ivers area is subject to an unprecedented concentration of major infrastructure projects over the next decade and, working with our partners at South Bucks District Council, we will be investing significant resource in securing the best deal possible for local residents and businesses.

“As a key part of this, we are in regular communication about everything related to the proposed expansion of Heathrow with local partners through the Ivers Members Liaison Group which includes representatives from the county council, South Bucks District Council and Iver Parish Council which also has links in to other local community groups and residents associations.”
