Silhouettes to remember fallen World War One soldiers placed on benches around Marlow have been removed early after one was taken and left on a bench in a residential street.

Marlow Town Council said on social media it was “saddened” to discover the silhouette outside Hamptons, in the High Street, had been taken.

It was then found in Rookery Court by a resident.

The town council had planned to keep the five silhouettes out until the end of the week but said because one had been “targeted”, the decision had been taken to remove them all earlier than planned.

The silhouettes were awarded to the town council as part of the national There but not There installation funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to remember the fallen in WWI.

The award was made under the Armistice and Armed Forces Communites programme, which makes awards to bring communities together to remember and think about the Armed Forces today.
