TV presenter Edd China waxed lyrical about Marlow and Marlovians as he flicked the switch on the town’s Christmas lights last week, officially marking the launch of the festive season.

Speaking exclusively to the Marlow Free Press before the switch-on last Thursday, the motor specialist, mechanic and inventor, who lives in Henley-on-Thames, said the town had a “lovely feel” and was “very inclusive”.

Bucks Free Press:

He said: “We often come into the town and have breakfast at Fego. It’s lovely to come in and see the river.

“It’s got a bit of everything, which is rather lovely. There are some great places to eat and some really nice shops.

“You can feel a frisson of excitement in the area as people gather in the High Street for the lights.”

Edd, who arrived on his mobile sofa – popularly known as the Casual Lofa and the fastest in the world – he successfully launched the festive season in the town by turning on the Christmas lights to roars of approval from the crowd, who packed into the High Street to watch him light up the town.

Bucks Free Press:

He added: “I love the vibe of the place. We have the best of both worlds – it’s lovely in Henley and we have Marlow on the doorstep.

“There is so much that Marlow gives and offers. We need to keep coming here to keep it going.

“Long may it reign.”
