An annual ceremony to remember lost loved ones broke all records this year, organisers said.

Hundreds of people turned out to the Tree of Light ceremony in Princes Risborough on Sunday.

The Princes Risborough Rotary Club, which organises the event every year with Rennie Grove Hospice Care, said this year’s dedications set a new record and the club is expecting an “outstanding” amount of funds to be raised from the event.

The ceremony was led by Reverend James Tomkins and the lights were switched on by town mayor Cllr Matthew Walsh, with music provided by the Risborough Choral Society.

Rotary president Richard Stevenson said: “The Tree of Light is now established as a much-loved activity in the build up to Christmas, and the numbers attending the dedication ceremony emphasise how much local people appreciate the opportunity to reflect on the lives of their loved ones in a welcoming and dignified environment.”
